Day 1-3 Victoria Falls+Your first destination is the mighty Victoria Falls, regarded as one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Here you will be met at the airport and taken to the historical Victoria Falls Hotel, your home for the first two days. For international travellers, this is a great way to start your safari as it gives you time to relax after your flight and take in the magnificent spectacle of the Falls not only on a guided tour along the edge of the canyon but also from the sky on a 25-minute helicopter flight. The helicopter gives you the best opportunity to photograph the falls in their entirety and the rainbow that often appears in the mist that gives the Falls their local name Mosi Oa Tunya – The Smoke that Thunders.
Day 3+The journey from Victoria Falls across the border to Botswana takes about an hour in a comfortable private vehicle and you will be met in Kasane by one of our guides who will take you across to the Namibian side of the river to go to The Pangolin Voyager houseboat, or The Pangolin Chobe Lodge. This may sound a little confusing but the Chobe River is actually the border between Botswana and Namibia and the houseboat is moored on the Namibian side.So after you have left Zimbabwe you pass through Botswana and into Namibia all in under an hour! While on the houseboat you will enjoy all your activities on the custom built photo boat that sits alongside. The Chobe River is the only constant water source in the Northern Section of the Chobe National Park and attracts huge herds of elephants and plains game to its banks. The river is also home to plenty of hippo and crocodiles and hundreds of species birds including one of the healthiest populations of Fish Eagles in Africa. For accompanying non-photographers there is also plenty to do from relaxing on the rooftop sundeck with a good book to visiting a local village or going for a walk on a Baobab Tree covered island.
DAY 6 - 9+You will leave the houseboat after brunch on day 9 and head over to the Botswana side again and up to Kasane Airport which is close by. From here you will take a charter flight down to the Okavango Delta and the Pangolin Khwai Camp. The Pangolin Khwai Camp is situated on the 200,000ha Khwai Private Reserve which is bordered by Moremi to the South, Savuti to the North and Khwai Community Reserve to the East. In other words right in the middle of some of the best wildlife photography hotspots in Africa! On the reserve, we will spend most of our time looking for the big cats and wild dog as there are very healthy populations of both on the reserve. Being a private reserve we are also allowed to off-road at special sightings to get into better positions and we can also do night drives to see the nocturnal predators like Lions, Leopards and Hyena in action. The waterways on the reserve also allow us to spend a morning or afternoon in traditional dug-out canoes called Mokoros (seasonal), which give a totally different and near-silent wildlife safari experience. The camp also offers walking safaris which are a great way to check out the tracks and sign of the resident species but also to do some macro photography (and get some exercise too!). At the camp, we have three game viewers and a maximum of twelve clients at any one time. This means that we only have four people in each vehicle allowing plenty of space for moving around and storing gear during game drives.
Day 9-14+On Day Nine you will head for the airstrip once again for the short hop to Maun which has daily direct flights to The Mother City – Cape Town. Cape Town is probably one of the most picturesque and photo friendly cities on the planet and home to the Pangolin Photo Safaris reservations office and out sister company Cape Town Photo Tours. From the staggering immensity (not to mention breathtaking views) of Table Mountain to the rocky shores of Cape Point and the rolling vineyards of the Cape Winelands there is almost too much to see and do in this amazing city. Luckily the guides from Cape Town Photo Tours will help you to fit in as much as you would like during two full days with them in a private vehicle. They will take you to all the important places you would like to see in a fully customisable route, at the best times of day for photography while avoiding busier times at key locations like Cape Point and the penguins at Boulders Beach. Our hotel of choice is the Commodore hotel in the famous V&A Waterfront which has plenty of restaurants and places of interest. Your local Cape Town travel planner will be happy to make dinner reservations for you at some of our favourite places in the evening. Cape Town is a foodie’s paradise as well as being a photographers playground and we think that both passions combine very well indeed. While in Cape Town you will be well taken care of by our local staff from the chauffeur-driven meet and greet when you arrive from Maun to the time to head home. Perhaps you may consider heading up the Garden route on a self-drive adventure after Cape Town. Your travel planner is more than happy to suggest any add-ons.
