Scheduled Flights

Frequent flights link Johannesburg to Gaborone, Maun and Kasane - the gateways to the national parks and wildlife areas.

Shuttle | Charter Flights

Shuttle/charter flights are the only way of reaching the majority of camps in the Chobe, Moremi, Central Kalahari and Delta areas. Scheduled light aircraft flights depart from Maun and Kasane and handle all inter-camp transfers in this area.

Please note: Mack Air allows no more than 20 kg (44 lb) aboard a charter flight. This baggage limit applies to the total weight of both luggage and hand luggage (including camera equipment). No baggage in excess of this limit will be permitted to be flown in the passenger cabins of any of the aircraft and, if regarded as "untransportable" by Mack Air, the luggage will be refused embarkation in the interests of safety.

It is imperative that all luggage be packed in small, flexible, soft-sided bags. Large suitcases and any other rigid, inflexible luggage (including those with "pull along" handle frames and wheels) will not be permitted on the aircraft at all. All luggage will be packed in the aircraft's cargo pod and must conform to a size limit of 25 cm x 65 cm x 30 cm (10 x 25 x 12 inches).

Transfers

Self-Drive

Although Gaborone, Maun and Francistown are accessible by 2-wheel drive cars, travel into Moremi, Chobe and the Central Kalahari can only be undertaken by 4-wheel drive. Self-drive clients have access to most of the Moremi, Savute and Chobe lodges, but lodges in the Okavango Delta itself are only accessible by light aircraft.

Guided Safaris

A large variety of guided safaris are available. Please see our &Beyond Expeditions, detailing a great diversity of guided camping, personalised and lodge-accommodated safaris.

Trains and Coaches

We do not recommend these modes of transport for travel within Botswana.

What to Remember When Travelling Around Botswana

Botswana is not really a self-drive destination unless you are prepared for serious 4x4 driving and check weather conditions carefully, as these impact on the road conditions.

Although Gaborone, Maun and Francistown are accessible by 2-wheel drive cars, travel into Moremi, Chobe and the Central Kalahari can only be undertaken by 4-wheel drive.

Great Plains Conservation Child Policy
These general guidelines apply to all of the Great Plains Conservation properties:
• Families at all our camps will be on shared activities with other guests.
• The minimum age requirement for walking and canoeing is 12 years in all camps except Selinda Explorers Camp where activities will be adjusted for children 10 years and older.
• Children 15 and younger must share a room with at least one adult.
• On the Selinda Adventure Trail, children 10 to 15 years (inclusive) are welcome on departures that have been booked on a private basis. This allows the guide and crew to adjust the daily walking and/or canoeing distances to suit the family’s needs.
• The child rate is based on a child sharing with two adults (except ol Donyo Lodge, Mara Plains and Selinda Camp family rooms where is is up to two children sharing with two adults). If this configuration is not possible, then it may be that the child will be charged the applicable adult rate.
• We evaluate each booking to ensure we deliver the best possible safari experience to all our guests in camp. In some cases, we may need to turn away a family booking in order to do so; we will do everything possible to try and avoid that outcome.
• Our camps are located in wildlife zones that are not fenced in and there are no child care facilities in our camps. Parents/guardians must be watchful of and responsible for their children at all times.
• Each of our camps has a unique child policy based on the size, location and structure of the camp. Please consult each camp’s rate page for specifics.
