Introduction

Join Hannes Lochner on this ultimate Chobe photo safari in June 2017. You will spend 7 days split between the Pangolin Tented Camp and the Pangolin Voyager Houseboat photographing alongside one of the continent’s top wildlife photographers.

Itinerary

This safari starts deep in the North Western side of The Chobe National Park at the private Pangolin Tented Camp. Your accommodation will be in very comfortable en suite tents with en-suite bathrooms. There are proper beds with cotton linen and the camp has solar power facilities for charging batteries and laptops. Hannes and his partner Noa (a highly skilled wildlife film maker in her own right) will host you in-camp and on the two daily game drives. We are limiting the number of clients per game viewer to four to allow you plenty of room for your gear and to move from side to side depending on where the action is. The advantage of the tented camp is that you are right in the thick of the action at very first and last light each day. In-between drives you will have plenty of time to work on your images with Hannes in the covered dining area of the camp which doubles as a media centre by day.

On land in The Chobe we will be concentrating on finding photo opportunities with the predators and plains game that inhabit this region of the park. There are plenty of lion, leopard, hyena and on occasion packs of Wild Dog who all prey on the zebra, buffalo and various antelope species.

As far as food and drink is concerned you will be well taken care of by our camp staff with meals and drinks served throughout the day. At night you can relax around the camp fire and immerse yourself in the night sounds of the African Bush while you swap tales of safaris gone by with Hannes, Noa and your fellow guests

On the fourth day you will leave the tented camp and head east to cross the Chobe River to the Namibian side and board The Pangolin Voyager Houseboat.

Our houseboat has 5 en-suite air-conditioned cabins that can be made up in either twin or double bed configurations. Alongside the houseboat we have an 8 seater photo boat with custom built chairs with gimbal mounts. Hannes and Noa will be on hand to assist you as you navigate up and down the river looking for photo opportunities. The Chobe is famous for its water based photography and you will have plenty of opportunities to photograph large herds of elephants (sometimes crossing the river) as well as hippos and crocodiles. There are numerous bird species with particular interest in the African Skimmers that arrive in the Chobe at that time.

June is also an excellent time for fishing should you wish to try your hand at catching a feisty Tiger Fish or two in between photographic cruises. We have all the requisite fishing gear onboard as well as additional tender boats to fish from.

All the meals are served around the dining room table on the second floor lounge area which again doubles as the media centre for post production sessions.

On the last day we will transfer you back across to the Botswana side where you can continue your safari onwards perhaps to The Okavango Delta, Victoria Falls or perhaps further afield to Madikwe or Cape Town. Your travel planner will be more than happy to offer you plenty of suggested add ons to this fantastic wildlife photography experience.
