Introduction

Pangolin is delighted to be working with Jaci’s Lodges in Madikwe and we have been hard at work developing their photo safari offering. What people don’t know is just how easy it is to get from The Chobe to Madikwe via Gaborone meaning that clients no longer have to waste a day staying over in Johannesburg on their way to another reserve in South Africa.
The Chobe/Madikwe combination offers the ultimate in water based photography on the photo boats combined with more traditional land based activities in The Chobe. Madikwe is famous for its predator sightings with healthy populations of lion, leopards, wild dogs and hyena (both spotted and brown) which when combined with the plentiful elephant and other large mammals in the Chobe makes this a very well rounded photo safari indeed.

Itinerary

You will be collected from Kasane airport by a Pangolin representative and taken to your 4* lodge on the banks of The Chobe River which will be your base for the first three nights. Each morning and afternoon you will be collected from the lodge and taken into the Chobe National park in either the photo boat or one of our custom built vehicles. On board you can use any of our cameras free of charge and there is a photo guide in attendance to help you make the most of each photo opportunity. If you have your own gear we will simply supply you with a “base plate” to your lens collar that will allow you to mount your camera onto our custom seats.

On day four you will be taken to Kasane airport after brunch for your flight to Gaborone in the south of Botswana. From there it’s a short drive (mostly in the Madikwe reserve) to the wonderful Jaci’s. The entire trip from Kasane to Jaci’s should take no longer than a few hours and you will arrive in time to spend the afternoon in the amazing Terrapin Hide next to Jaci’s tree lodge.

During you time in Madikwe you will go on morning and afternoon games drives and also spend time in the Terrapin hide, which is submerged in a very popular waterhole next to the lodge with 24hr access. Madikwe has very healthy predator populations with several large prides of lion as well as packs of Wild Dogs and two species of hyena – Spotted and Brown.

We have spent lots of time working with the guides to increase their understanding of placement of vehicles and different lighting situations so they will be able to get you into the right position for each photo opportunity. We have also modified the vehicles to incorporate camera rests along the sides for clients with longer lenses.

The accommodation and meals at Jaci’s Lodges is world class and we are sure you will thoroughly enjoy your time here in terms of both photographic and relaxation time.

On the last day you have the option to either transfer directly from Jaci’s to OR Tambo airport or Johannesburg or even visit some of the local reserves in the region such as The Pilansberg on your way back by road. Charter lights are also available directly from Madikwe to The Sabi Sands should you wish to explore another iconic safari destination.
